Hazel O'Connor to support Camille O'Sullivan
HAZEL O'CONNOR to take the stage with Camille at Charles Fort
The bad news this week is that Maria Doyle Kennedy will no longer be playing support to Camille O'Sullivan at Charles Fort on 10th July. This may be good news for her however, as the reason she has had to withdraw from the engagement is due to her winning a role on major US TV hit show Dexter. Fans of the rising star will no doubt wish her well as she heads to LA to begin filming.
The good news is that we have convinced eighties icon Hazel O'Connor to perform the vacant slot.
This is a real coup for Kinsale Arts Week as this year marks the 30th anniversary of Breaking Glass. Striding into the spotlight with the cult movie in 1980, Hazel immediately became an iconic figure. Here celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary, live and onstage, her ageless songs from the soundtrack – Eighth Day, Will You and Big Brother – will seem even more relevant in our present time.
Hazel O' Connor has fast re-established herself as an artist and performer to be reckoned with. Her husky voice remains charged with passion and her enthusiasm, love of music, and wicked sense of humour, is ever present. From initially catapulting to stardom, Hazel continues to tour extensively delighting audiences along the way, winning over fans old and new .
The rock star has returned to her soul folk-roots and O'Connor will perform with the celebrated Irish harpist Cormac De Barra, in a captivating performance at Kinsale Arts Week.
Cormac De Barra, fresh from presenting TG4’s Imeall series, which will be back on air in the autumn, has represented Ireland internationally and currently also plays with Moya Brennan, Julie Feeney, Clannad, Ann Marie O’Farrell and Karin Leitner. He has recorded three of his own harp-led CDs. The combination of De Barra’s harp with Hazel’s unforgettable voice is truly magical.
